You are putting Scripture in the hands of children in Egypt's packed churches.

People hit hardest by the economic crisis are filling churches and, thanks to you, they’re receiving Bibles.

Two years ago, Ramez, then-leader of Bible mission in Egypt, told us he and his team were finding almost limitless opportunities to share God’s word. That was in a pandemic. It’s still true now as Egypt faces economic crisis.

Egyptians are struggling to buy basic goods. Last year, the incredible rise of inflation hit everyone, and most especially the poor. More than a quarter of Egyptians live in poverty. Among those deprived millions are many of the country’s relatively large Christian population.

But however much they might be suffering, Egypt’s Christians have an amazing appetite to hear God speak. ‘Churches are packed,’ said Amir, Bible Society of Egypt’s new leader. ‘People are seeking a message of hope.’ The team has a special heart to reach these believers who fill the churches but can’t imagine being able to own a Bible.

With your help, Bible Society of Egypt continues to ensure that poverty is no obstacle to meeting Jesus. Every year supporters of Bible mission in England and Wales partner with the dedicated team Amir leads. You are putting the Bible in the hands of people in Egypt. And this year the need is immense.

Reaching thousands with your help

‘In Egypt it’s not uncommon to find thousands of people attending one church,’ said Amir. He recently took 2,000 Scripture booklets to a church, and the pastor asked for another 5,000. ‘The need and the hunger of the people is so great.’ Amir is constantly asking himself, ‘How can we provide more Bibles?’

You are the answer to Amir’s question. A year ago you helped the team double the reach of their Bible backpack programme. That meant 20,000 children received a backpack containing Bible-themed books and games. An 11-year-old girl called Miriam excitedly declared, ‘I can read, colour, solve a puzzle, memorise Bible verses! Thank you so much!’

Children are very much part of the plan when it comes to sharing God’s word in Egypt. Just before the pandemic Egypt led the world in distributing children’s Scriptures, giving out more than a million booklets, twice the total of second-placed Brazil. Lois, a member of the team in Egypt, said, ‘We are absolutely confident that when the word of God is sown in the hearts of children, their lives will be different and they will shine.’

Amir said, ‘Near me, a church in a very poor district has 3,000 children in its Sunday school.’ He’d love to give a Scripture booklet to every one of those children.

Find out how you can help Amir and his team meet the huge demand for Scripture in Egypt’s packed churches.

Will you pray that more and more people are able to take home the word of God they hear in church as generous supporters in England and Wales put the Bible in their hands?
