My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'When I was 10 I was a pedestrian in a road traffic accident. My left leg was broken in six places, my right leg in three places. I landed on my head, twisting my spine, fracturing the vertebrae in my neck, fracturing my skull. I was unconscious for seven weeks, one of them in a coma.
All this resulted in brain damage which I live with to this day. The prognosis of the consultant was that I would never walk again, that my mental state would be that of a cabbage. It ruined my life.
I had wanted to be a mechanical engineer. But my arm shakes all the time. I can’t do anything dexterous. It takes me ages to do my shirt buttons up. Then in 1990 I met someone who lived locally.
She had Philippians 4:13 written on her front door. It says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I thought, “I want some of that. I want all of that!” I have been changed from that moment. It’s been a positive change for me definitely. I wanted some of that reassurance from within. It was what I needed. It was what I got.'
