Moses and The Exodus | Egypt Series (Part 1) – 04

Back to series home

The River Nile is one of the world’s most iconic rivers and a significant location in the Old Testament. The Nile was important for Egypt, ensuring an abundance of crops, but it was also where Moses, as a baby was floated into the hands of Pharaoh’s daughter. As she requested a Hebrew woman to nurse him, Moses' sister Miriam orchestrated the baby's return to his real mother. The Nile was also significant later in Moses’ life as he returned to Egypt on a mission to set the Israelites free. Pharaoh’s refusal resulted in a series of plagues, the first being the Nile turning to blood, making it unfit for drinking.

Looking around

Egypt was a prosperous and powerful nation in Bible times, owing the fertility of its land to the Nile. No wonder the river was an object of worship. When God called Moses, the Hebrew, to liberate his people from the yoke of Egypt, the struggle was not merely for liberty but spiritual truth.
