My Bible and the pandemic

For the last three years Hazel Southam has been gathering people’s accounts of how the Bible has helped and encouraged them. Now she wants to hear how the Bible is speaking to you during the pandemic.

It's been a real privilege telling people’s accounts of how the Bible has helped and encouraged them. Every story is different, and what I’ve taken from that is that the Bible isn’t a one-size-fits-all book. God speaks through it in differing ways to a vast variety of people.

Also, over the last couple of years, I’ve been leading the team which was planning on bringing the Psalm 23 Garden to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May. So, Psalm 23 has become part of the warp and weft of my life.

Then came the coronavirus and the cancellation of the Show, and a complete change in life. Instead of commuting on the M4, I’m going for a daily walk. My concerns have gone from being about the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, to worrying about my 92-year-old mother, who is in isolation.

So, I went back to Psalm 23. Did I really believe what it was saying? Did I believe that God was with me in these circumstances as well as the glorious buzz of helping create a garden for Chelsea. Yes, I did. I call it to mind most days. I hang onto it. Weirdly, it’s part of normality for me. It kept me going before this. It’s keeping me going now.

So, every week you’ll read stories of people just like you, finding their way in the pandemic, telling how the Bible is speaking to them in this strange and daunting situation.

We’d love to hear your experience too. So, if you’d be happy to share your story of how the Bible is helping you through the pandemic, please get in touch.
