My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘My Dad’s a vicar. There are issues that come with that. As I grew up I went away from the Church, but not from God.
I was at university and I was at a bit of a loss about what I was going to do afterwards. I was on a train going home to my parents. I realised that the lady sitting next to me was reading a Christian book. I prayed. I was angry. But I said, “I need something God. If you are there, I need something.”
I was very grumpy. Everything about me said, “Do not talk to me.” I looked at the woman and she was writing something down. In the end, she spoke to me. She said, “Christians can feel that God speaks to them,” and she gave me the bit of paper. It was verses from Psalm 139 that talk about God creating me in my mother’s womb and God knowing the plans that he had for me. That was the answer to my prayer.
That made me feel so overwhelmingly known and listened to and valued. When I got to my parents’ house, I googled something, read about an internship, applied and got it.
It was the best thing. It really set me up for what I’m doing now. We all know that we are such small people in a big world, but it reminded me that it is a loving relationship with God and that even if you are in the worst place, he still listens. There are no limits to his love.'
