Reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
Rhesymau i gredu ym mhŵer y Beibl
‘I recently received a diagnosis of cancer. The scripture I read then was John 17.13, where Jesus prayed for his disciples that “they might have my joy in their hearts in all its fullness”. Also, a friend prayed that I would experience “peace, power and joy as I walk this stage of my eternal life with God”.
‘I think God had warned me just before the blood tests, so it wasn't a shock, but it was a surprise it happened so quickly after I'd heard that still, small voice. I thought, if God's warned me, he knows.
‘I have asymptomatic myeloma, and I have a treatment plan that could start next year or the year after. It's a bit like a sword of Damocles hanging over me; I'm trying to wait wisely. When I do start, it will be six to eight months of chemotherapy, three weeks on and one week off, then in all probability it will be a month in hospital for a stem cell transplant, which is quite aggressive. So you know this is coming.
‘My first concern was for family, and for my husband. I lost two sisters to cancer, one aged 39 and another aged 65, so I've watched this and I know what it is. And you think, “O, I'm used to praying for other people, and now it's me.”
‘For my husband I think it is a hard call. It's harder for your loved ones. As a Christian who's been born again, we've already died and risen with Christ – that hit me quite forcibly the other week. But the impact is on those left behind.
‘I've been given warning that I'm not going to feel very well for a year or so at least, so I'm trying to make it easy for everyone. By staying positive and knowing the joy of the Lord I think it makes it easier for them.
‘I'm going to be walking a difficult path, unless God changes that. But another friend said she was amazed at the joy she saw in me. It is a joy not because of or under the circumstances, but in and through them with my immortal, heavenly Father holding me.’
‘Yn ddiweddar, cefais ddiagnosis o ganser. Yr ysgrythur a ddarllenais bryd hynny oedd Ioan 17.13, lle gweddïodd Iesu dros ei ddisgyblion “er mwyn i'm llawenydd i fod ganddynt yn gyflawn”. Hefyd, gweddïodd ffrind y byddwn yn profi “heddwch, grym a llawenydd wrth imi gerdded y cam hwn o fy mywyd tragwyddol gyda Duw”.
‘Rwy'n credu bod Duw wedi fy rhybuddio ychydig cyn y profion gwaed, felly nid oedd yn sioc, ond roedd yn syndod iddo ddigwydd mor gyflym ar ôl i mi glywed y llais bach llonydd hwnnw. Roeddwn i'n meddwl, os yw Duw wedi fy rhybuddio, mae'n gwybod.
‘Mae gen i myeloma asymptomatig, ac mae gen i gynllun triniaeth a allai gychwyn y flwyddyn nesaf neu'r flwyddyn olynol. Mae o ychydig fel cleddyf Damocles yn hongian drosof; Rwy'n ceisio aros yn ddoeth. Pan ddechreuaf, bydd rhwng chwech ac wyth mis o gemotherapi, tair wythnos ymlaen ac wythnos i ffwrdd, yna mae'n debyg y bydd yna fis yn yr ysbyty ar gyfer trawsblaniad bôn-gelloedd, sy'n eithaf ffyrnig. Felly rydych chi'n gwybod bod hyn yn dod.
‘Fy mhryder cyntaf oedd dros y teulu, a fy ngŵr. Collais ddwy chwaer i ganser, un yn 39 oed ac un arall yn 65 oed, felly rydw i wedi gwylio hyn ac rydw i'n gwybod beth ydyw. Ac rydych chi'n meddwl, “O, dw i wedi arfer gweddïo dros bobl eraill, a nawr dyma fi.”
‘I fy ngŵr rwy’n credu ei fod yn anodd. Mae'n anoddach i'ch anwyliaid. Fel Cristion sydd wedi cael ei eni o’r newydd, rydyn ni eisoes wedi marw a chodi gyda Christ - fe wnaeth hynny fy nharo’n gryf yr wythnos o'r blaen. Ond ar y rhai sy'n cael eu gadael ar ôl y mae'r effaith.
‘Rwyf wedi cael rhybudd nad ydw i'n mynd i deimlo'n dda iawn am flwyddyn neu ddwy o leiaf, felly rydw i'n ceisio ei gwneud hi'n hawdd i bawb. Trwy aros yn bositif a phrofi llawenydd yr Arglwydd rwy'n credu ei fod yn ei gwneud hi'n haws iddyn nhw.
‘Byddaf yn cerdded llwybr anodd, oni bai bod Duw yn newid hynny. Ond dywedodd ffrind arall ei bod wedi synnu at y llawenydd a welodd ynof. Mae’n llawenydd nid oherwydd neu o dan yr amgylchiadau, ond ynddynt a thrwyddynt gyda fy Nhad bythfywiol, nefol yn fy nal.’
