If you can, go somewhere that inspires you. If you’re out in nature, listen to the sound of the birds, how the trees move in the wind, look at the wide open spaces and breathe it in. Alternatively, search for ‘James Webb telescope, Pillars of Creation’ on the internet and stop to consider. Now, consider the one who created these things. Offer up your own prayer to God, giving thanks that ‘he is mindful of you’.

Lord thank you that you redeemed a rebel like me. Thank you that when I put my trust in Jesus, peace is not just a feeling, it is a position. Help me embrace that reality, so I may experience your peace more fully. Amen.

Lord thank you that your mercies never come to an end – they are new every morning for those who put their hope in you. When I see the sunrise, may I see your daily mercy shining over me. Thank you that when I deserve justice,  you offer me your tender and loving forgiveness. Amen.

Lord Jesus, thank you that all things were by you and that all things hold together through you. Thank you that the fullness of God dwells in you, and that you offer an invitation to reconciliation with you. Amen.

Father God, thank your faithfulness to those who trust you is vast – immeasurable and unquantifiable. May I consider your faithfulness, even though I could never fully comprehend it. Thank you that you are not just faithful when I am, but faithful even when I’m not. Amen.

Lord Jesus, you are so worthy of our affections. I declare you the top trump of my heart. Help me join in with the angels and echo their line on repeat, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain. Worthy is the lamb who was slain. Worthy is the lamb who was slain’. Amen.

How to use The Lent Encounter devotional

If you have two minutes: Listen to the audio reflection and ponder how it might be relevant in your life.

If you have up to ten minutes: Read the Bible passage and listen to the audio reflection; you might want to keep a small journal, or note on your phone, to jot down words and phrases that jump out at you. Finish with a brief prayer to put what you have read and heard into practice.

What if I miss a day(s)?Don’t worry, life happens! Just pick up the devotional again on the current day, and, if you wish, you can use the space for reflection on Sundays to listen to those reflections you may have missed.
