My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘The passage that has kept coming up and up in my life is from Psalm 18, “He’s my rock, he’s my fortress, he’s my deliverer, in him will I trust”.
‘It started to come up about 50 years ago. Now it doesn’t have to come up, it’s just there. It’s my first port of call. I’ve painted it on a rock that sits at the top of the stairs, so I always see it. It makes a tremendous difference knowing that this is true. I would have been worrying about things otherwise, and I might start, but then I put the worries down and go to my rock.
‘My husband has Parkinson’s and things can get messy at times. With all the problems that brings, I might for a moment be stressed but then I go back to the rock and trust in God. That helps with the practicalities.
‘Sometimes I go and hold the actual rock. It’s nice to hold. It’s calming, because it’s physical as well as spiritual.’
