Reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
Rhesymau i gredu ym mhŵer y Beibl
‘My life is quite tricky. Thirteen years ago, I had a phone call from the kids saying that their mum couldn’t move. Her spine was crumbling, and later she was diagnosed as having only half a brain. I haven’t worked since. I do everything. I wash her, feed her. Every day is different.
‘I haven’t been a Christian very long, maybe six or seven years. When I bought my Bible, I read Isaiah 43.1–3, which says, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up.” It says that God is going through the tricky times with me.
‘I get frustrated and angry. But God gives me peace when I don’t know what to tell the kids, and enables me to carry on when things are emotionally draining. It is such a comfort to know that God is with me.
‘There have been some really dark times when I just couldn’t cope anymore. This week, my daughter was admitted to a mental health unit. She had tried to kill herself. I feel sick inside. But I really can feel God’s presence in this.
‘I shout at God and then apologise. I would have committed suicide without that verse, because the stress has been horrendous. It drains you. It’s been tough, but that verse has kept me alive and given me hope, and without hope you have nothing.’
‘Mae fy mywyd yn eithaf anodd. Dair blynedd ar ddeg yn ôl, cefais alwad ffôn gan y plant yn dweud na allai eu mam symud. Roedd ei hasgwrn cefn yn breuo, ac yn ddiweddarach canfuwyd nad oedd ganddi ond hanner ymennydd. Nid wyf wedi gweithio ers hynny. Rwy'n gwneud popeth. Rwy'n ei hymolchi, a’i bwydo. Mae pob diwrnod yn wahanol.
‘Nid wyf wedi bod yn Gristion yn hir iawn, efallai chwech neu saith mlynedd. Pan brynais y Beibl, darllenais Eseia 43.1–3, sy’n dweud, “Pan fyddi di'n mynd drwy lifogydd, bydda i gyda ti; neu drwy afonydd, fyddan nhw ddim yn dy gario di i ffwrdd. Wrth i ti gerdded drwy dân, fyddi di'n cael dim niwed; fydd y fflamau ddim yn dy losgi di.” Mae'n dweud bod Duw yn mynd trwy'r amseroedd anodd gyda mi.
‘Byddaf yn mynd yn rhwystredig ac yn ddig. Ond mae Duw yn rhoi tangnefedd i mi pan nad ydw i'n gwybod beth i'w ddweud wrth y plant, ac yn fy ngalluogi i ddal ati pan fydd pethau'n feichus yn emosiynol. Mae'n gymaint o gysur gwybod bod Duw gyda mi.
‘Bu rhai amseroedd tywyll iawn pan na allwn ymdopi mwyach. Yr wythnos hon, derbyniwyd fy merch i uned iechyd meddwl. Roedd hi wedi ceisio lladd ei hun. Rwy'n teimlo'n sâl y tu mewn. Ond rydw i wir yn gallu teimlo presenoldeb Duw yn hyn.
‘Byddaf yn gweiddi ar Dduw ac yna'n ymddiheuro. Byddwn wedi cymryd fy mywyd heb yr adnod honno, oherwydd mae'r straen wedi bod yn erchyll. Mae'n sugno eich nerth. Mae wedi bod yn anodd, ond mae’r adnod honno wedi fy nghadw’n fyw ac wedi rhoi gobaith i mi, a heb obaith does gennych chi ddim byd.’
