My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘My daughter was expecting a baby. She already had a little girl. I was so excited. My granddaughter was desperate for a sister. When she was 26 weeks pregnant, I was looking after my granddaughter, while my daughter went for a check-up. After a couple of hours, I knew something was wrong. The baby had died in the womb.
‘It was heart-breaking. There was nothing we could say. We stayed up for the week, which was Easter, and it was verses from John 6 which helped me through that time. Some of Jesus’ followers had deserted him and he said to his disciples, “You don’t want to leave too, do you?”
‘I felt that we were being given the choice. We could leave and face the chaos of the world without Christ, or we could hold on with our fingernails. We knew that Jesus had been with us in happy and sad times. So, I affirmed that I was going to stay and ask for Christ to be with us as a family.
‘We came home and went to a sunrise service on the beach on Easter Day. It was an overcast morning and then suddenly the sun broke through and I felt it was a sign that whatever happens, Christ is with us.
‘Ten years later, my daughter works for a Christian charity preparing school assemblies and my granddaughter is at secondary school. After another miscarriage, my daughter had a little boy, and he’s a bundle of mischief. They became stronger, we all became stronger, because of what happened.’
