My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘It was the fifth and sixth day after coming to the UK. There was Covid, so we were quarantined in an Airbnb. I realised that we weren’t going to get any help from the estate agent in finding somewhere to live. I hid myself in my room and was frustrated and in despair.
‘Then I heard voices talking in Cantonese outside. I called out to them. One was the wife of the pastor of the church I now attend. She comforted me. In Hong Kong, I wasn’t a Christian, but she brought me to church and prayed with me. I found a house. We came to church, and I have been baptised. I started to pray more, and I help out at church now. My two girls are very settled and my husband and I have both got jobs in the last two years.
‘The verse that means the most to me is Matthew 7.7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” The Lord knocked on my door and I opened that door and received the Lord. But it all began with responding to the Cantonese voices outside the Airbnb. That was the beginning of me opening the door. If I had never called out, they would never have known I was there.
‘I feel like a new person here. In Hong Kong I had a good job and my whole life was there, but it was all built around material things, but here God let me know that it was not the things that you have that you should focus on. Here, we focus on God and family. It’s more mentally rewarding than a material life.’
