My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'An important verse for me is from Romans 3: “no-one is righteous, not even one. They have all fallen short.” I had just spent quite a lot of time and money doing my Post-Grad and Masters in Business Administration. I thought I had everything sorted.
I was applying for jobs all the time, but nothing was coming through. My son had just been born.
In India, a lot of hope is hinged on the man. I was falling short. My friend asked me to come and hear a prophet. The idea of a prophet was very appealing. I wanted to know what the future had in store for me. As I listened to him talk I felt eternity come down on me.
I felt I was in front of the eternal God. I broke down. I knew in my heart how I had maintained a respectable image but I wasn’t great, actually. All that came tumbling down. I cried my heart out and prayed. That was the beginning of my journey of looking into the scriptures.
The verses in Romans 3 say to me that we are always trying to make life better, achieving lots. But nothing seems to bring that final happiness. These verses mean something to me because I know my search for happiness has stopped. I know the Lord died for me.
There are still times when I see my friends go up the ladder and I wonder what I have done with my life. But God is my comfort.'
