People from Persia. In the Old Testament period, Pesia refers to an empire also known as the Achaemenid empire which dominated the Ancient Near East from around 550-330 BC when it fell to Alexander the Great. Its focus was around what would today be called southwestern Iran but the empire stretched from the Mediterranean and as far as the borders of India. Zoroastrianism was its major religion.
