Atonement

The action of making amends for a wrong or injury. In the New Testament specifically the means by which God and humanity are reconciled through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was probably used for the first time in William Tyndale's translation of the New Testament in the 16th century and many think it was a new word made up to communicate at-one-ment or reconciliation.
