What could be better on a hot day than sitting under the shade of a tree? So this week, designer Sarah Eberle visited Deepdale Trees and selected the four trees that will feature in the Psalm 23 Garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in September.
Having considered her options remotely during lockdown, she finally travelled to Bedfordshire to make her selection. ‘I love them,’ said Sarah, ‘and they are so much bigger in real life!’
The type of trees that Sarah’s selected is still a secret, though you may be able to guess by studying their form and leaves. But, the role that they will play in the garden is no secret.
‘The trees in the Psalm 23 Garden are also trees that naturally belong in this landscape,’ said Sarah, ‘weathered trees that have lived through life’s difficulties themselves. They contribute a lot to the garden. They play a significant role in creating the garden’s feel.’
And it’s not long before the trees will make their way to London. It’s only six weeks until the team starts to create the garden, and nine before you can catch a glimpse of these beautiful trees either at the Show or on the BBC’s coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Find out how you can incorporate trees in a community garden in your area.
