A ruler of the Assyrian empire (705-681 BC), he led the Assyrian response to the rebellion against them by Hezekiah, king of Judah in 701 BC. Although he destroyed many of the cities in Judah, he never breached Jerusalem and Hezekiah remained on the throne 2 Kings 19 attributes this to a miracle sent by God.
