Gospel

A word that comes from an Old English word 'godspell' meaning good news. It can be used to refer either to the content of the good news (in other words the general message of good news that comes from Jesus) or to a document which lays out the good news of Jesus' birth, life, death and resurrection. There are four Gospels in the New Testament attributed variously to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
