Gibeonites

The Canaanite inhabitants of Gibeon who are described variously in the Old Testament as Hivities (Joshua 10.12) or Amorites (2 Samuel 21.2). The Gibeonites tricked Joshua into forming an alliance with them by pretending to have travelled a long distance to visit them (implying they were not Canaanites); Saul decided to punish them for this trick and David allowed the descendants of Saul to be impaled on a mountain by way of punishment for their treatment of the Gibeonites.
