Diaspora

Also called the dispersion, to describe the scattering of Jews beyond the territory of Israel. The period of dispersion or diaspora is often traced to the time of the exile when many Judeans were taken in exile to Babylon. During the Roman empire Jewish populations could be found across the Roman empire but particularly in Antioch, Damascus, Babylon and Alexandria in Egypt.
