Group holds banquet after 18 months apart

Author: Bible Society, 15 December 2021

A group of 12 adults with learning disabilities and their carers held a Psalm 23 banquet in Lancashire as they reunited after 18 months apart due to Covid.

The Good News Group at St Andrew’s Church in Leyland had not been able to meet since the pandemic began. So, when they came back together they decided to make it a special event.

‘It is the only spiritual input that they get,’ said the group’s leader Gill Powers. ‘Because they had not been able to meet for so long, they were thrilled to be back.

‘The atmosphere was great and everyone was very thankful and grateful,’ she said.

‘There is a lot of negativity about, but I wanted to lift people’s eyes and see that God had been walking with us all the time during the pandemic.’

Party sandwiches, crisps and little cakes were served during the banquet.

‘I think that Psalm 23 says that however many difficulties you have faced, the Lord has been there for you, caring for you, even in the dark, dark times,’ said Gill. ‘That is such an important message right now. It was really thrilling to do this.

She added, ‘I would really encourage people to do this at their churches. It is a great way to share your faith.
