In April this year Bible Society was delighted to sponsor the Chaiya Arts Awards. The awards are the UK’s newest theme based biennial arts event, hosted in gallery@oxo on London’s south bank.

This year’s event, the inaugural competition, featured inspiring art focused on the intriguing theme: Where is God in our 21st century world? Entries were whittled down to 45 pieces, comprising traditional art, sculpture, video installations, and contemporary design, that were selected to feature in a two week exhibition over Easter.

We were delighted to sponsor The Bezalel Award, a prize for the piece that we felt best invited or encouraged an exploration of the Scriptures, or that reflected, explored and translated a specific scriptural narrative or theological theme.

Competition was fierce, and after shortlisting six pieces opted to divide The Bezalel Award between four artists: Pete Codling with his piece 'Naivety'; Marjan Wouda with 'The Other Lamb', Deborah Tompsett with 'A 1000 Bottles of Tears' Elisabeth Ruth with 'I Know All The Birds'.
