I was involved in an horrendous car accident.

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘I was involved in an horrendous car accident. I had pain in my leg, but they were more worried about the serious head injuries and the fact that I’d been out of it for a bit. So, I ended up leaving hospital with a broken femur that hadn’t been spotted. As a consequence, I walked with a limp and had to have a hip replacement in my mid-30s. I had been called all sorts of names because I walked funny, and it really affected my confidence and self-worth. It was bad.

‘After the operation they told me that one leg was two inches shorter than the other and that I’d have to have built-up shoes. That was devastating. I felt that my confidence had gone.

‘The passage that helped me was Psalm 18.33, “He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights”. It was like a promise to me and I held onto it.

‘I was on the way to the cobbler’s to try out built-up shoes when a passage from Joshua came into my mind, “Whose report do you believe?” I chose to believe in God, rather than the doctor, and went home.

‘Friends had been experiencing healings at their church. I went up there and the leader said that there was someone with one leg longer than the other. They prayed for me, and I felt the power of God come through my leg and it pushed them on the floor. I was just laughing with joy. I knew something had happened. Everyone said I was walking properly.

‘I had an appointment with the physiotherapist and they looked at me and said, “What has happened to you?” I said, “My leg has grown”. They measured it and they were perfect. It makes me emotional even now to think of it. God had shown himself to be faithful and he knew he was going to do it.’
