Is science compatible with religion? A lot of people don't think so

Asked about whether 'science and religion are fundamentally in opposition with each other', 40 per cent said they were.

While 40 per cent isn't a majority, only 28 per cent disagreed that science and religion were in conflict, with 26 per cent neither agreeing nor disagreeing (another six per cent didn't know). Men were nearly twice as likely as women to 'strongly agree' they are in conflict, at 15 per cent to eight per cent.

The idea that there's a conflict between science and religion is a fairly recent one. No matter how often it's debunked, it remains surprisingly common.
