Welcome to Egypt! | Egypt Series (Part 1) - 01

Back to series home

This country is famous for its historic sites, beach resorts, cotton and the great River Nile. But it’s also a hugely significant location in the Bible. Egypt is associated with key Bible stories involving people like Abraham, Joseph and Moses, with great miracles like the parting of the Red Sea and Israel’s deliverance from slavery. Jesus, along with his family, spent some of his childhood as a refugee in Egypt.

Looking around

Egypt’s history stretches over several millennia. Two dozen royal dynasties ruled the land before successive invasions by Assyria, Persia and, in 332 BC, Alexander the Great. The Bible pinpoints the intersections between Israel’s and Egypt’s histories, notably God sending Moses to order Pharaoh to let his people go.
