Filipino (Tagalog)

Tagalog is the main language of the Philippines, where it is called Filipino. It is spoken by about twenty five million people and written in Latin (Roman) letters. Christianity was first brought to the Spanish East Indies (Philippines) by Catholic missionaries in 1565.

The Tagalog Old Version Ang Biblia was produced in 1905, and revised as the Ang Bagong Ang Biblia (Revised Tagalog) in 1954. The Magandang Balita Biblia (Tagalog Popular Version or TPV) was produced as a New Testament in 1976 and a whole Bible in 1983. It is in the style of the Good News Bible. It was revised as the Ang Magandang Balita Biblia (Revised Tagalog Popular Version) in 2005.

Most Tagalog speaking Christians are Catholic with a large Protestant minority. Bible work is done by the Philippine Bible Society. Bibles are produced in Protestant and Catholic editions.
