This month, Bible Society launched an exciting new title: Jonah and the Bony-Finned Asteroid Fish.

Many Christians have grown up hearing the narrative of Jonah and the Whale. But this creative new retelling can help us look at it with a fresh perspective, and maybe gain insights into the story that we didn’t have before.

That’s the hope of Jo Sheringham, a new author that Bible Society is pleased to be working with. Jo has been writing retellings of biblical stories for adults for many years, and shares with us her inspiration and motives for writing Jonah and the Bony-Finned Asteroid Fish in the following interview.

Jonah, here conceived as a semi-retired prophet to inter-galactic royalty, lives quite a comfortable life until God calls him to do something that makes him distinctly uncomfortable: prophesy to Nineveh. Instead, Jonah decides to head to the space-port of Joppa, Planetary Gateway to the Stars, to book himself a ‘long holiday’. A beautifully crafted retelling that is packed full of humour and razor sharp dialogue, whilst remaining true to the message of the scripture it is based on, this wonderful new book brings the scriptures alive in an exciting and original way.

You can purchase Jonah and the Bony-Finned Asteroid Fish on our online shop now.
