Advent 2020 might look a little different from any other year. Now, more than ever, we need to pull together to offer each other support, encouragement and community, and to remind each other of the hope we have in Jesus Christ. Here are some ideas for in-house and socially distanced ways to journey through Advent this year.
Suitable for families with primary school aged children, our new Rooted Advent box contains all the ingredients you need for a meaningful, memory-making, relationship-building, family Christmas that will be fun for all.
The Gospel of Luke has 24 chapters. Why not read a chapter a day from 1 December to prepare your heart and mind for Christmas and focus on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ? You could invite one or more friends to join in with you and set up a messaging group to share your thoughts as you journey through the Gospel.
Stay connected and encourage others. Who do you know who might appreciate a call, message, card, socially distanced walk or other sign that they are remembered and cared for at this time? Write a list of family, friends, neighbours and acquaintances to contact and pray for throughout Advent. Work your way through the list.
Browse online Christian bookshops or Bible apps like YouVersion for Advent devotionals and Bible reading plans. Commit to taking time each day to read the devotion, reflect on God’s love and pray. If you have friends who use the same Bible app you may even be able to send them an in-app invitation to do the devotional reading plan with you.
Think about your local area and community, including churches, schools, charities and businesses. Are you aware of any particular needs or concerns? What could you do and how could you offer your support in a way that will share God’s love and a message of hope throughout Advent? Look for opportunities to do impromptu and random acts of kindness too!
