Bible Society staff have been able to take humanitarian aid and Bibles to cities that have been under Russian attack recently, including Kharkiv and Bucha.
Kharkiv lies just 20 miles south of the Russia/Ukraine border. It is in an area which is now under increased fire from Russian forces.
Nevertheless, our Bible Society colleagues were able to visit recently, taking food and Bibles. Their aim was to provide ‘hope amidst fear’.
They worked with the local church to take food, medicines and Bibles to people's homes and to bomb shelters. They also visited a local school that now serves as a local shelter for many people whose homes have been destroyed.
Natalia, the former school secretary, runs the shelter. She was among those who received a Bible. She said, ‘Thank you very much for the Bible, because the one that I have had small print and it is very difficult to read it. When I was younger, it was fine, but now, especially when it is dark, it gets really hard. But this one is a true blessing.
‘Psalm 91 is our salvation,’ she added, ‘we read it day and night, night and day. And it surely helps!’
The team also met Larysa, who said, ‘Huge thanks to the church and to you for helping us! I am especially grateful for Psalm 91! I’ve opened it because we all need these words very much. And special thanks for the large print because there is often not enough light. You do a great thing. Huge thanks and may God bless you!’
