My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘When I was about 18 or 19, I was saying, “I love you Lord, but I have got to go to parties and have boyfriends. I don’t feel clean enough for you, God.” I’d say, “I want to use the next 5-10 years to clean up my act and I will be back”.
‘I was a people pleaser. I thought that I wouldn’t have any friends if I was a Christian. I wanted to be in with the in-crowd.
‘Then I read Isaiah 64.6, which says, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags”.
‘So, I realised, I don’t need to do jack. I just need to come to God. But I still wanted to do some of those things. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was my first realisation that I didn’t have to do anything. If I loved God, he would do the rest in me. The more I gave myself to him, the more he would wash me clean. That was a defining moment for me.
‘I use this verse from Isaiah now to tell my kids that God will always be with them. I don’t worry about my children. I can rest assured that, as long as their foundation is in Christ, everything else will work out.’
