We had been holidaying in Shropshire

My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

'We had been holidaying in Shropshire for 10 years and felt drawn to it. But life wasn’t like that. My husband worked in London at that time. But, last year, God helped us to move from a four-bedroom home in suburbia to a smallholding in Shropshire.

'During the move, we were filmed for Channel Five’s A Country Life For Half the Price, with Kate Humble. If it hadn’t been for the programme, we wouldn’t have been into the animals: the cow, pigs and hens. It wasn’t that we went out and sought these animals. They came to us.

'We had tried to get the cow delivered for so many months. We prayed, and thankfully, the cow arrived a few days before lockdown. There are 11 of us, and this means that we now have an abundance of milk, and enough to share with those in need. On the advice of my son’s maths teacher (clearly prompted by God), the pigs went to slaughter hours before we came down with coronavirus symptoms, and so now we have pork for months. We have 11 hens and get about 8 eggs a day, and are growing our own fruit and veg. It was as if God was saying, ‘I’m going to show my provision, just in time’.

'I had proper Covid-19 symptoms. We all showed some symptoms, except my husband who was asymptomatic. We’re all better now. It’s been fine, except for the worry that you have when you think, is it going to get worse.

'Isaiah 65.24 says, ‘Before they call, I will answer.’ It felt as if God answered our needs before we even knew they existed.

'What we are working through now is painful, but we know that God has a plan in it. He has us in his arms. What a wonderful God we serve.'
