My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘The passage that means the most to me is Isaiah 41.10 which says, “Fear thou not: for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand.”
‘I can remember when this became a thing for me. Many years ago, I went through a separation and a divorce. There were a number of scriptures that I went to again and again and this was one of them. It helped me to believe that there was hope in sight and that God was with me through my circumstances.
‘I wasn’t feeling particularly strong, but this showed me what God would do for me. I could see that God would be strong. It really helped me, because it wasn’t about how I was feeling.
‘Though I attempt to walk in faith, I need an extra dose of assurance to be courageous in the day-to-day things that require courage. When you know that God is with you, you know that you can be courageous. That’s been true for me.
‘That scripture gave me the courage to live as a single woman. I’m not fractured. Being in a relationship is a great thing. But, I don’t feel that I have bits missing. I feel that I am whole, because of God’s promise. It feels good, because God is with me. I have been able to live my life in fullness. I always go back to this verse. It gives me confidence and courage.’
