My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘Six months into my pregnancy, I found myself having the baby. That wasn’t in my plan. I had pre-eclampsia. My life was on the line. So was the baby’s. I was scared that I would not survive and that my child would not survive.
‘Everybody was praying. Somebody gave me Psalm 139 to read. It talks about God knowing us before we are born, how intimately God knows us. I took that for myself and the baby. I knew her, but then I realised that God knew her.
‘She weighed 1lb 13oz when she was born. She was in an incubator for seven weeks, and came home on oxygen. She was born in the January and came home in August.
‘I was reading Psalm 139 every day. I had to read it because what I was feeling like wasn’t that at all. I had to keep my eyes on God. I was feeling despair, and hard done by. But I felt God was saying, “Hold your nerve”.
‘The Psalm took me through my life, my encounters with God and the fact that God knew my daughter before she was born. Whilst everyone else was running around, it brought me down to what I knew, to God. Looking back, it made all the difference.
‘My daughter is six-years-old now. She’s very well. I tell her she’s a super-hero.’
