My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'My husband and I were married for 50 years. I met him at a Catholic Club. He came in and I thought, "Isn’t he nice?" I didn’t go for a few weeks, and then there was a play, so I went to that. I was in the front row and he came and sat next me. He said, "I’ve been looking out for you." And that was that.
'You couldn’t have had a nicer person. You could trust him. He was a good man. He had that many jokes. He was a happy man, very content in his way. He was a real gentleman. There aren’t too many like that around now.
'When my husband was poorly a few years ago, he was taken into hospital in the evening. They were doing an operation. They rang me and said, ‘Come quickly, he’s really poorly.’ I was waiting for a taxi and when I got there it was too late. That was a great shock.
'There’s a verse in the Bible that says, ‘In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God.’
'When you go through tough times like that, that verse is helpful. It reminded me that God is in charge. I do miss him. He was a saint to put up with me. But I’ve been given the strength to carry on.'
