My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I’m musical and music speaks to me. So, the Bible verses that I remember are from songs. There is a song that I love that says "Who the Son sets free is free indeed". That’s John 8.36. That really impacted me.
The other one says, "I will build my life upon your love, it is a sure foundation". That’s from Isaiah 28.16. They are something that I can have in my head, and sing, every day. The emotion that music can bring out is incredible. You can sing a really uplifting song and be hopeful, or be brought to tears.
I have two children under six. My 18-month old is lovely, but she’s going into the terrible twos and can be quite stubborn. My six-year-old has some temperamental issues at the moment. He can go into a rage, and it can be a drain calming him down. He screams if he’s angry. I always feel that the problems with the children are my fault, particularly with my son, that I have caused that in a way, that I’m not doing a good job bringing him up.
So, these verses give me hope. They are like a lightbulb. It’s as if God is saying, "Don’t get caught up in all the latest trends of parenting, just focus on me." I have massive issues about whether I’m good enough, particularly as a parent. But when I sing these biblical truths, I know that I am a child of God and that he actually likes me, which is really uplifting and encouraging.'
