My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I’m a medical researcher. I grew up in Xinjing Province in China. I didn’t have much information about Christianity or the Bible. No-one believed around us. It was only when I came to this country that I had contact with Christianity.
I lived in Southampton for seven years. There was a Chinese church there. I enjoyed the gatherings and from that I began to read the Bible.I had so many questions. I began to pray. God was working in my life.
I left my job and went to a job in London, but I failed my probationary period. That was the beginning of reading my Bible and praying every day, because I was at home. From that time, I changed. I got two job offers. I came here, but I wasn’t paid for three months. I was so angry about it and I was so angry with God.
Then I read Matthew 18.9, which says, “If your eye makes you lose your faith, throw it away!” I realised that God is good and he’s the God of justice. I’m not so holy. I felt that I had to admit that God is right, that I shouldn’t be angry any more. The anger went and just after that, my pay got sorted out. I’ve been here 11 years now and it’s the best job.
I can work flexible hours and collect my children from school. It’s really worked out for me.'
