My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I work with adults with disabilities. There was a lot of unsettling news over the summer – the suicide bombing in Manchester, the attacks on Westminster Bridge and London Bridge, and then the Grenfell Tower fire.
I’m in a position where I support people and help them process that. One of the dangers of seeing these things on the news is that you can become fearful and you can feel that these things will happen to you. That’s what happened to me.
My friends were sharing on social media about what had happened. Everyone was saying that something dreadful had happened. So, I was praying that God would give me peace. I didn’t want to be fearful.
I read lots of verses from the Bible that gave me peace. In Proverbs it says, “All who listen to the Lord shall live in peace and safety, unafraid.” And in Genesis it says, “What’s more, I am with you and will protect you wherever you go.”
And in Psalm 138 it says, “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies and your right hand delivers me.”
I have noticed that people I work with can’t relate to what’s happened. They have been unsettled by it. I was conscious that I wanted to be helpful. These verses have helped me to see that we can’t shy away from trouble, but that God is with us in that trouble.'
