My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I was reading economics at Durham university. The career path was most likely management consultancy. But I also played a lot of hockey and got chatting to a friend in the pub. I told him that I prayed sometimes. He invited me to church and it was there that the Bible really opened up to me. A
fter university, I did a year with a team in Peru helping a church. One day, we all wrote down a verse from the Bible and shared it with each other. Someone gave me Acts 20.24, "I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace."
It felt like someone had made that verse up it was so perfect for me. I’m not a sentimental guy. I don’t usually keep bits of paper. But I still have that little bit of paper pinned to my wall, even though it’s very faded. I kept it because it was so powerful.
That verse gave me a deep sense that that was what I wanted to do with my life. I’m now at theological college. There’s so much to understand, but that verse reminds me that in the end it’s all about God’s grace.'
