Reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

'I was one of those boys who didn’t sit still for a minute. I left school before taking the equivalent of GCSEs. I went to church. My reputation preceded me and they all thought I was there for the girls. But it was there that I made a commitment. People thought, "Maybe he’s for real." So they asked me to help with the Sunday School. I had to read the Scriptures. The Scriptures blew my mind. I had a serious thirst for knowledge. I read what’s now my favourite verse, Ezra 7.10: "Ezra devoted his life to studying the law of the Lord, to practising it, and to teaching all its laws and regulations to the people of Israel." That became a frame of reference for everything I did subsequently. I thought that if Ezra had done this, then I needed to do it. So, I went to Bible college for a year and then did a degree in religious studies. Now I’m a church leader and a theologian.'
