Reasons to believe in the power of the Bible

‘I was in my late teens, and I suppose I was at the point of trying to decide on the direction of my life and what life would look like. I was at Soul Survivor, and sat down and read Joshua 1.9. It says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” That was very, very powerful.
‘At the same time, I read through the book of Acts and it painted a picture of God’s people on a mission to reach people with the love of Jesus.
‘At that time, I’d been thinking about where I would study. All of a sudden, other things dropped away. I became convinced that we [my girlfriend, who is now my wife] were supposed to be planting a church in the Rhondda and doing what we are doing now.
‘I did a degree in physics. I had the opportunity to go and have work experience with NASA, but this stuff all cut through that. Later, I had the opportunity to go to Harvard and do a Masters, but I wanted to come here and plant a church.
‘Our parents thought we were mad and thought we would grow out of it. But it was a great decision. I love what we are doing. We feel like we are being the people that God made us to be, doing the thing that God wanted us to do. We are in the sweet spot every day. That’s nice.’
‘Roeddwn i yn fy arddegau hwyr, ac mae'n debyg fy mod ar y pwynt o geisio penderfynu ar gyfeiriad fy mywyd a sut olwg fyddai ar fywyd. Roeddwn i yn Soul Survivor, ac eisteddais i lawr a darllen Joshua 1.9. Mae'n dweud, “Onid wyf wedi gorchymyn iti: bydd yn gryf a dewr? Paid ag arswydo na dychryn, oherwydd yr wyf fi, yr Arglwydd dy Dduw, gyda thi ple bynnag yr ei.” Roedd hynny'n hynod o bwerus.
‘Ar yr un pryd, darllenais drwy lyfr yr Actau a phaentiodd lun o bobl Dduw ar genhadaeth i gyrraedd pobl â chariad Iesu.
‘Bryd hynny, roeddwn i wedi bod yn meddwl lle byddwn i'n astudio. Yn sydyn, diflannodd pethau eraill o’r golwg. Deuthum yn argyhoeddedig ein bod ni [fy nghariad, sydd bellach yn wraig i mi] i fod i blannu eglwys yn y Rhondda a gwneud yr hyn rydyn ni'n ei wneud nawr.
‘Fe wnes i radd mewn ffiseg. Cefais gyfle i fynd i gael profiad gwaith gyda NASA, ond fe wnaeth y pethau hyn i gyd dorri ar draws hynny. Yn ddiweddarach, cefais gyfle i fynd i Harvard a gwneud gradd Meistr, ond roeddwn i eisiau dod yma a phlannu eglwys.
‘Roedd ein rhieni'n meddwl ein bod ni'n wallgof ac yn meddwl y byddem ni'n tyfu allan ohono. Ond roedd yn benderfyniad gwych. Rwyf wrth fy modd â'r hyn yr ydym yn ei wneud. Rydyn ni'n teimlo ein bod ni'n bobl y gwnaeth Duw inni fod, gan wneud y peth yr oedd Duw eisiau inni ei wneud. Rydyn ni yn y man delfrydol bob dydd. Mae hynny'n braf.’
