My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I was diagnosed with cancer in January 2018. I hadn’t had a voice for a couple of years. The doctors thought it was psychological. But there was a tumour on my vocal chords. I had treatment all of last year and was cancer free, and thought I could get on with my life.
Late last year they found another tumour in my throat, and my vocal chords. This is Stage 4. There’s not much they can do. They say it’s terminal but they’re going to fight it. I just expected that, at my age, I’d be at university or doing youth work, which is what I always wanted to do.
The Bible has been a constant reminder that God is with me. I focus on Psalm 27 which says, “The Lord is my light and salvation, whom should I fear?” That makes me look forward to seeing God. God has been a constant refuge in all of this. I feel that he is with me in this.
On a daily basis, I open up God’s word. It doesn’t matter what I read, I see God’s plan of salvation and what he has done for us. I can see his loving plan and purpose. That helps me, because I know there’s something greater to this world, and that no matter what happens, if I live, great; if I die, I will be with my saviour, and that’s a hope of eternity. I feel so content. I’m not worried about the future.'
