My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
'I was a nurse. When he was 19, my younger brother died. I asked for a transfer to a remote part of Sri Lanka, because I just couldn’t take it.
I met a man there. We married and had two children. He became very jealous. I am an open, friendly person. I talk to everybody. But he thought I loved them. I used to get a walloping from him. I couldn’t leave because my children were very small. I put them into boarding schools because I wanted them to be educated well.
I lived with the beatings for two years. I couldn’t tell anyone. I only managed because I prayed. One day, I packed a small bag. I went to work, and after work I went to my brother’s house. I told him what had happened. He said “You can’t go back”.
I took my daughter out of boarding school and brought her home. When I went to “kidnap” my son, my husband had taken him and I couldn’t find him. Then I had to file for divorce. Psalm 23 sustained me. My father had made me learn it by heart. It says that the Lord is my shepherd even if I go through the valley of darkness. He was there.'
