Reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
Rhesymau i gredu ym mhŵer y Beibl
‘I hit a big low last November. Having earned a good salary as a teacher, I found myself on universal credit with just £404 per month. It was very difficult. How do I live on that? I went into a dark pit.
‘One day I went to the beach. I decided that I was going to walk into the sea. It was all too much. I had taken my shoes and socks off. There was a fisherman. I felt a tug and he said, “Please don’t do anything stupid”. He sat with me, and what was the nicest, he prayed with me. He said, “You are going to get through this. God is here for you.”
‘I’m getting counselling and I’m glad I’m still alive. I look at things from a different perspective now. I hope God helps me to help other people in that position.
‘I’ve memorised Psalm 73.26 which says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever”. I go back to this every day. I get the strength I need by listening to him and reading his word. If I don’t, I go off track and when I was in the depths of despair, I wasn’t listening to him.
‘Scripture gets you out of the doldrums. I know that there is a bigger picture. I don’t know what it is, but he does, because He is my “strength” and my “portion”. I didn’t see that before. When I’m yelling at him, I know he’s there with me. It’s a comforting feeling.’
‘Fe wnes i daro pwynt isel iawn fis Tachwedd diwethaf. Ar ôl ennill cyflog da fel athro, cefais fy hun ar gredyd cyffredinol gyda dim ond £404 y mis. Roedd yn anodd iawn. Sut ydw i'n byw ar hynny? Es i mewn i bwll tywyll.
‘Un diwrnod es i i'r traeth. Penderfynais fy mod i'n mynd i gerdded i'r môr. Roedd y cyfan yn ormod. Roeddwn i wedi tynnu fy esgidiau a sanau i ffwrdd. Roedd yno bysgotwr. Teimlais blwc a dywedodd, “Paid â gwneud unrhyw beth gwirion”. Eisteddodd gyda mi, ac yn fwyaf braf, gweddïodd gyda mi. Meddai, “Rwyt ti'n mynd i ddod trwy hyn. Mae Duw yma i ti.”
‘Rwy’n derbyn cwnsela ac rwy’n falch fy mod yn dal yn fyw. Rwy'n edrych ar bethau o safbwynt gwahanol nawr. Rwy'n gobeithio y bydd Duw yn fy helpu i helpu pobl eraill yn y sefyllfa honno.
‘Rwyf wedi dysgu Salm 73.26 sy’n dweud, “Er i'm calon a'm cnawd ballu, eto y mae Duw yn gryfder i'm calon ac yn rhan imi am byth.” Rwy'n mynd yn ôl at hwn bob dydd. Rwy'n cael y cryfder sydd ei angen arnaf trwy wrando arno a darllen ei air. Os na wnaf, af oddi ar y cledrau a phan oeddwn yn nyfnder anobaith, nid oeddwn yn gwrando arno.
‘Mae'r Ysgrythur yn eich dwyn chi allan o'r felan. Gwn fod yna ddarlun mwy. Wn i ddim beth ydi o, ond mae ef yn gwybod, oherwydd Ef yw fy “nghryfder” a fy “rhan”. Welais i ddim mo hynny o'r blaen. Pan fyddaf yn gweiddi arno, gwn ei fod yno gyda mi. Mae’n deimlad cysurlon.’
