My Bible: reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
‘I got married quite young. After a few years we wanted children, but after a few more years – during which time I’d had a miscarriage – nothing was happening, so we saw specialists for tests.
They didn’t find anything, but we had unidentified infertility issues. We went through the IVF process and amazingly, it worked first time for us. It is a very stressful, long and intense experience.
When you’re trying to conceive you become obsessional and very focused about wanting children. Everything else becomes a bit jaded in some ways. It was quite isolating, because, other than my husband and my family, I didn’t talk about it.
Growing up, I went to a Christian school and we learned a passage of Scripture every month. There was an annual national competition of Christian schools and, when I was 13, I did a dramatic performance of Psalm 139 at it.
That passage has stayed with me. The verses in Psalm 139 which talk about God putting us together in our mother’s womb gave me particular comfort and hope, a sense that God was with me.I knew that he was in charge, even through all the uncertainty.
We’ve been through the IVF process twice. The second time wasn’t as stressful! Now we have two beautiful daughters. I love being a mother. Our girls are vibrant and vivacious. There’s never a dull moment. Now our older daughter is going to the same school that I attended.
She’s learning Scripture verses every month. It’s such a blessing for her to learn Scriptures, as I know that they will stay with her for the rest of her life, as this passage has stayed with me.’
