Reasons to believe in the power of the Bible
Rhesymau i gredu ym mhŵer y Beibl
‘During the past year I've been struck by Psalm 121 verses 3–7, especially, “He will not let your foot slip” and “the Lord is your shade at your right hand”.
‘My husband was a vicar in Essex for 21 years. In 2018 we felt it was right for him to retire. Alongside this a few people said he wasn't looking quite right, but we didn't take a lot of notice.
‘Our move to Wiltshire in 2019 was a bit traumatic and we put a lot of his symptoms down to stress. He wasn't sleeping and was losing weight. The week after moving we went to a Christian festival called New Wine. At the end, a nurse told me she was really worried about him and thought we should see a doctor. A couple of really good friends asked if he was alright, and his brother and a good friend were really worried when they saw him at Christmas.
‘The doctor ordered scans and tried to eliminate things but fear got a grip. At the same time there was that sense that God had got us in his hands. I remember saying, “Whatever this is, the Lord knows and he's got us.” And I can say that at that point a peace came for both of us. Every time fear came in the night, that verse came as well.
‘When a neurologist told us that he was 100 per cent sure my husband had Parkinson's, it was almost a release. Then came lockdown and we needed to process it all. But we kept coming back to Psalm 121.5, “the Lord will watch over you”.
‘Eighteen months down the line, the medication has made a huge difference to him and exercise as well. We've learned to live with it, knowing it is progressive but that it affects different people in different ways.
‘We have a life to lead and God's not finished with us yet. We know life won't be quite as we imagined but it's still a life; God's with us in it, and it's still a useful and fruitful life.’
‘Yn ystod y flwyddyn ddiwethaf cefais fy nharo gan Salm 121 adnodau 3–7, yn enwedig, “Nid yw'n gadael i'th droed lithro” a “yr Arglwydd yw dy gysgod ar dy ddeheulaw”.
‘Roedd fy ngŵr yn ficer yn Essex am 21 mlynedd. Yn 2018 fe wnaethom ni deimlo ei bod yn iawn iddo ymddeol. Ochr yn ochr â hyn dywedodd rhai pobl nad oedd yn edrych yn hollol iawn, ond wnaethom ni ddim cymryd llawer o sylw.
‘Roedd symud i Wiltshire yn 2019 braidd yn drawmatig ac fe roesom y bai am lawer o’i symptomau ar y straen. Doedd o ddim yn cysgu ac fe gollodd bwysau. Wythnos ar ôl symud aethon ni i ŵyl Gristnogol o’r enw New Wine. Ar y diwedd, dywedodd nyrs wrthyf ei bod yn poeni'n fawr amdano ac yn meddwl y dylem weld meddyg. Gofynnodd cwpl o ffrindiau da a oedd o’n iawn, ac roedd ei frawd a ffrind da yn bryderus iawn pan welsant ef adeg y Nadolig.
‘Trefnodd y meddyg sganiau a cheisiodd ddiystyru pethau ond cafodd ofn afael arnom. Ar yr un pryd roedd gennym ymdeimlad ein bod yn nwylo Duw. Dw i'n cofio dweud, “Beth bynnag ydy hyn, mae'r Arglwydd yn gwybod ac mae’n gafael ynom.” A gallaf ddweud ar y pwynt hwnnw daeth tangnefedd i'r ddau ohonom. Bob tro y deuai ofn yn y nos, deuai'r adnod honno hefyd.
‘Pan ddywedodd niwrolegydd wrthym ei fod 100 y cant yn siŵr bod clefyd Parkinson ar fy ngŵr, roedd bron â bod yn rhyddhad. Yna daeth y cyfnod clo ac roedd angen i ni brosesu'r cyfan. Ond dal i ddod yn ôl at Salm 121.5 “Yr Arglwydd yw dy geidwad” a wnaethom ni.
‘Ddeunaw mis yn ddiweddarach, mae’r feddyginiaeth wedi gwneud gwahaniaeth enfawr iddo ac ymarfer corff hefyd. Rydyn ni wedi dysgu byw gydag ef, gan wybod ei fod yn gynyddol ond ei fod yn effeithio ar wahanol bobl mewn gwahanol ffyrdd.
‘Mae gennym ni fywyd i’w fyw a dydy Duw ddim wedi gorffen gyda ni eto. Gwyddom na fydd bywyd yn union fel y gwnaethom ei ddychmygu ond mae'n dal yn fywyd; Mae Duw gyda ni ynddo, ac mae’n dal yn fywyd defnyddiol a ffrwythlon.’
