Zion

A hill in Jerusalem. Mount Zion is the iconic name for the particular connection between God and his people and hence with Jerusalem. Zion is often used figuratively to refer to God's people as well as to the place where God dwells with his people. It is also used to refer to a particular place, a mountain around which Jerusalem was built. The term Mount Zion was so iconic that the actual location of Mount Zion shifted, even when the term remained. At first Mount Zion referred to the City of David, the ancient Jebusite fortified city which David took over but then became used for the site of the first temple.
