Samaritans

The people who lived in Samaria after the exile. No one quite knows who the Samaritans were. Some suggest that they were the descendants of the original inhabitants of the Northern Kingdom mixed with the Assyrian population who were resettled into the land in 722 BC. We do know that they were enemies of the Jews and that their religion, though similar to Judaism, had some importance differences like a different place of worship (Mount Gerizim) and just the Torah as their scripture. The Samaritans still exist in very small numbers (in 2015 there were 777 Samaritans registered).
