Herod Antipas

A son of Herod the Great, Antipas ruled in Galilee from around 4 BC to AD 39. It was Herod Antipas who was criticised by John the Baptist for marrying the wife (Herodias) of his half-brother and who subsequently executed John the Baptist in Machaerus. He also was the Herod before whom Jesus appeared in his trials (recorded in Luke 23.7-16).
