Caeserea Philippi

A town at the base of Mount Hermon which was first settled during the Greek empire under the name Paneas. Herod Philip II renamed it Caesarea in AD 14 and it was called Caesarea Philippi to distinguish it from the Caesarea on the coast. Outside of the New Testament it is also known as Caesarea Paneas.
