Antioch

An important city in the Graeco-Roman world. Founded in the fourth century BC by a Greek general, it was on the trade route between the east and west and, as a result, became very wealthy and influential. It was mentioned regularly in Acts and, indeed, became known as the cradle of Christianity because of its role in spreading Christianity both east and west. It is located on the southern coast of what is now known as modern Turkey, just north of Syria.
