We support Bible Society, so that more people around the world can learn about God’s love by reading his word

Helen and Michael Patten are very committed to Bible Society and are the Chair and Treasurer respectively of the Rye and District Action Group.

They have told us how, in their dreams, there are 15-20 members mostly in their 50s and 60s. However the reality is a group of five for whom 60 is a distant memory. Nevertheless, they are keen to share what they achieve as an encouragement to other groups.

  • Provide one of the Lent Lunches in their parish, often attracting tourists and locals.
  • Contribute to two local fairs each year selling home-made food, crackers for dogs or cats and running guessing games like ‘Guess Ollie the wise owl’s favourite proverb’.
  • Invest their time in larger events like ‘Revelling in the Bible’ which is an evening of Bible-based quizzes, puzzles and games or National Evenings, which is a meal served from a country such as China or the Middle East.
  • A highlight each year is ‘A Taste of Spring’ which is a concert given by local artists with a buffet supper served in the intermission.

Helen and Michael describe their group’s ways of raising funds, prayer and awareness as unspectacular, however their reason behind all this activity is their desire to 'support Bible Society, so that more people around the world can learn about God’s love by reading his word’. What a great reason to be involved.
